【跨性别与新马小说特辑】《蕉风》从1970年以来，从未出现整册以小说为重点的专号。而不时又会收到好的小说稿件，但碍于版位，久久都无法以小说为专号出版。此外，2017年陆续出现“跨性别小说”出版品。《蕉风》似乎延续了跨年的“马华跨性别文学年”。而 “新马小说特辑”其中有以很多福建方言书写的方式、跨境到越南顺化的故事、似散文又似诗的小说等。
